Blogger Interview Series, E2: Getting to know Heather Margiotta

For today's interview, I had the pleasure of getting to know Heather Margiotta. After looking through Heather's blog a bit, I knew I wanted to feature her in this series.

I was first attracted to Heather's blog when I read her adoption story. I’ve spoken to my husband about one say adopting after we've finished having kids or our own so reading Heather's post on her adoption immediately attracted me to keep on reading. And I'm so glad I did!

Check out how the interview went..

Questions about your blog:

Q: What motivated you to start blogging and why?

A: I've always wanted to write but never felt the timing was right. Then 18 months ago I had a friend approach me about starting a blog. This friend owns her own branding and marketing just business and she saw my gifting and ran with it! The reason I write and have a blog is that I want to encourage others. Life can be hard and messy, but there is always good if we train our eyes and hearts to see it.

Q: What type of audience do you wish to attract with your blog?

A: I want to attract people who want to talk about life and encourage one another through each other's journey. My main target is women, however, I'm appreciative of every male reader =)

Q: What is one thing you've learned in your blogging journey?

A: That God gave me a voice and to be confident in that. This past year my writing has grown as I have grown. I learned that my voice is to write relatable words encouraging others to see the joy in their life.

Q: What's the meaning behind your blog title? Since it's your name, can you explain why you chose to name it after you?

A: I struggled with this for awhile. I had a few different idea's for blog names that all expressed the tone of my blog however, I decided to stick with my name because I knew I wanted to release books and continue to do public speaking, so using my name would streamline everything and make it really simple.

Q: Where do you see your blog in 5 years?

A: This is a wonderful question. In 5 years I hope to see my blog be more than a blog. I hope to publish more books and travel more to speak. I really want to see God use my writing to encourage others and I hope to meet more people too!

Questions about YOU:

Q: I've heard that adoption can be difficult at times. How has your experience been with adoption? Can you give an example of one the worst moments and one of best?

A: To say our adoption process was difficult wouldn't even accurately describe how difficult it was. We fostered our son for over two years and it took another two years for the state to finalize. They were having crazy turnover with their caseworkers and each new caseworker would start the adoption process all over. We slipped through the cracks and were forgotten about a lot.  The worst moment we experienced is when my son had a caseworker who fought us on everything and did nothing for 8 months. She refused to fill paperwork and start the process of adoption and gave excuse after excuse. However, the best moment was when we finalized. That caseworker and judge were amazing, kind, and expedited the process for us since they knew what happened was unfair.

Q: What would be one piece of advice to someone who is thinking about adoption?

A: Talk to someone in your state who have adopted before and do research. Know your state laws as well as federal laws. There were countless times I would have to make calls and tell them what they were doing or not doing was illegal and it was because of those calls we finalized. Or feel free to reach out to me. I am more than willing to help anyone and point them in the right direction.

Q: What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

A: I love sitting with a great cup of coffee and talking to my husband or friends. I could spend hours just chatting with them. Besides that, I love board games, movies, and trying new restaurants.

Q: If you could go back 5 years, is there something you would change about yourself?

A: I would go back and change my confidence level in my capabilities. I held myself back out of fear of looking silly or thinking I didn't have good ideas. I've learned to be more confident in my giftings and talents and not be afraid to share ideas. Personally, I think that is what your 20's is all about; discovering who you are and owning it.

Q: What have you noticed about yourself since you began blogging? Have there been any changes in you?

A: I have been more willing to be transparent with my emotions. Before, I would keep things in and not really express much. Writing has brought that out in me, in a good way. I am not afraid to be transparent and show vulnerability like I use to be. I have seen how others really appreciate when you are open and that is how we all learn from one another.
