Eternal Forgiveness

2.25.2015

I think that forgiveness is one of the hardest and most complex actions that an individual can react on. I mean, why forgive when someone hurt you? Why forgive if you didn't do anything?
I am pretty sure that some time in our lives we have all gone through a situation where although we were the ones hurt, we were the ones who had to make the decision to let it go. That is all forgiving is; letting go of something hurts you. Sometimes, we unintentionally hold on to anger and hurt and make our lives miserable by choosing not to let it go. I just recently went through my little trial, but thank God it's over and done with.

At that point Peter got up the nerve to ask, “Master, how many times do I forgive a brother or sister who hurts me? Seven?” Jesus replied, “Seven! Hardly. Try seventy times seven. (‭Matthew‬ ‭18‬:‭21-22‬ MSG)
God clearly says in His word that we must forgive seventy times seven - that's a lot if you actually calculate. But think about it. Why would God tell us that we must forgive this much, if the odds of getting hurt by one person 490 times are slim to none. I mean really? Who in the world will hurt me THIS much?
That's why I love reading the Bible; because God sometimes uses exaggeration to show us that things really can be done!
Reality is, you're probably not going to get hurt 490 times but one person. But God made his point pretty straight forward, if you ask me. No matter how many times you hurt, keep forgiving.  What good is it to hold on to old hurt and anger? It does you no good. But forgive others, just as Christ forgave you for your sins and you will see the reward: Eternal Forgiveness.
